I’m a solo travel expert, solopreneur and founder of Wanderful Company, a labour of love inspired by 19 glorious years of non-stop traveling alone.

Equipped with nothing more than a suitcase, a one-way ticket and an incessant desire to be happy, I’ve gone from one solo travel adventure to the next for almost one third of my life to countries including Argentina, Brazil, Italy and France.

Want to travel alone? Thinking of traveling alone for the first time? Maybe traveling solo to find yourself? Well, you’re in the best of hands here my little macaroon. As a fully-fledged solo travel expert and adventure aficionado, I feel incredibly lucky to have spent all these years traveling alone. I cannot help but feel a huge sense of pride in what I’ve been able to achieve, especially having begun before the days of social media and smartphones!

16 years, wow you may be thinking. Could I do that too? YESSSSS, you absolutely can my little pain au chocolat. And let me tell you right from the get-go, you can do anything you want as long as you believe it!

Amusingly, I began with nothing more than one stuffed-to-the-brim suitcase, a pair of well-oiled Havaianas, and a larger-than-life smile determined to take happiness to new levels. Conventional life was never my cup of tea and if I’m being honest, I instinctively knew there had to be so much more to life. And besides, I’ve always had a desire to do things differently.

As a solo travel expert who has traveled to more than 60 countries in my life, I’m no lazy Lucy either my little croissant. Neither am I some kind of loser with no goals wanting to do nothing but vino and Netflix from the coziness of a sofa on my solo travel trails. It couldn’t be further from the truth. You are looking at one seriously focused go-getter, serial achiever, and one who never ever gives up. Tres British, lol!

And what the heck, I wanted to sip wine in Provence surrounded by lavender fields…a girl can dream, can’t she?!

Curiously, my journey began way before becoming a solo travel expert. I’d clocked up more than a decade in corporate UK and proved time and time again I had the steely grit to do anything of my choosing. At times, I felt I’d struck gold with money and promotion coming to me effortlessly. I’d made it. Or so I thought…

BUT who was I kidding, all I could think about was being free to live a life of my choosing. And by that, I mean building my OWN dreams while being on some kind of life-long vacation. LOLOL! Yes, you heard that right, a lifelong time-out to do as I wanted. The genie was out of the lamp and wasn’t about to climb back in any time soon. Office life had run its course, and heh, we had a good run. But life was beckoning me to pastures new, and juicy ones at that. New skies, new tastes, new people, and best of all, a new me.

Why am I saying this? Well, because you can absolutely travel alone at any stage of life no matter what social status you’ve defined for yourself. There are no rules and in fact, there have never been any. Where is the rule book? Do we sign some kind of allegiance to the ‘eat sleep work and repeat’ committee?

Why don’t we question the way we live in the quest for bliss?! Continually fine-tune and forever evolving is what life is all about. We’re free to live life as we choose and don’t be looking for validation from others my little cupcake. Break the mold. Do what makes you happy. End of.

one reason people resist change is because they focus on what they have to give up, instead of what they have to gain

In these exciting times of change, ‘what is’ is now worth diddly-squat! It’s old news, like gum you’ve chewed all the flavor out of. But what’s even better is ‘what’s coming’. And that’s the juice! The most delicious juice you have ever tasted. Trust me on this!!!

Look ahead my little toasted brioche and keep your eyes on the road and you will achieve dream after dream. People are beginning to discover an alternative to 2.4 family life and not one that society pigeonholes people into.

And let’s be frank, we’re not meant to be clones of each other, and ‘sameness’ defies logic. Do you see 7.6 billion carbon copy giraffes tree-hugging in one place with no other animals in sight to bat their lusty eyelashes at? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve nothing against the 2.4 family peeps or tree-huggers either for that matter, people can do what they want. But heh, some of us want to run for the hills and find a new vantage point to discover the hidden gems beckoning us from the other side.

With some tough love my little crumpet, why on earth would you want ‘sameness’ when a whole new world is calling you? And If you feel that pull, as I once did, don’t ignore it! Be happy knowing what lays ahead is bliss!!! Bliss, bliss, and more bliss. And isn’t that the whole point of life?!

Traveling alone is one of the most exhilarating things someone can do for themselves and is taking on a whole new dimension in global travel with a wave of exciting destinations enticing wanderers with remote visa programs. One such country, Costa Rica offers the chance to stay one year with tax exemption if you have a monthly income of at least 3000 USD. See below.

I feel blessed and appreciative to live a lifestyle of my own choosing. Nobody handed it to me. The want was HUGE and with that powerful desire came focus, determination, and elation knowing things are always working out.

So, why has this solo travel expert been traveling alone for so long?

To mention but a few…

I wanted the freedom to be myself

I wanted to feel truly alive

I wanted to create my own reality and unconventional lifestyle

I wanted to jump out of bed excited every day

I wanted to have it all – and yes I experienced that

I wanted to make the familiar unfamiliar lol

I wanted to taste some of the best food and wine that exist

I wanted to smile for no damn reason other than I won! I’m living life how I want

I wanted to see what I was capable of

I wanted to live my best life – and trust me, it was way better than I could ever have imagined…

And, in a nutshell, nothing less than this was ever going to satisfy me! lololol!

And why do I absolutely love traveling alone?

Well try it for yourself my little pain au chocolat, there are no words in the dictionary to explain it, believe me!!! One of the biggest reasons I fell in love with traveling alone is the feeling of heightened senses and wow, when you experience that, you want more! And more and more and more…

And here I sit, contemplating my next destination just knowing what’s in front of me. Big plans mean big living. A series of unending stepping stones letting destiny reveal the path.

As a solo travel expert, I guarantee you one thing, once you’ve tried it, you’ll never be the same again. And that my friend is living wanderfully.
