Have you ever asked the question why travel alone? Perhaps you know someone who has? Maybe you’ve wanted to but are too afraid to do it alone?
Welcome to a fairly new phenomenon that is about to take on a whole new dimension particularly among women.
As a solo travel expert and enthusiast for almost one-third of my life, I’m surprised it’s taken the world such a long time to catch on with its incredible benefits.
One of the reasons I started to solo travel in the first place was so I could do what I wanted when I wanted and with people I wanted. It was my way to have freedom on an incredible scale which I just couldn’t get being in an office back home. My working environment is now wherever I want it to be and with views of mountains, sea, and nature just as I choose.
As the world evolves, so too do women, and along with it what was once aspirational to have, be, and do. And this is particularly evident when women hit 40. By then, we are ready for a reset and the desire to be young again seems to dominate daily thought habits. We also want to get back to being a big kid again.
To travel alone may seem a little scary to some and maybe even sad to others. But take it from me as a solo travel pro, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, you can feel a little nervous at the beginning which is normal. But that time passes quickly and so too the doubts and any low-feeling emotions. And in their place, flow emotions of intensity, passion, and excitement. It’s that natural high we all crave and dream of.
We all have our own paths and tastes in life which we follow and of course, we are not meant to be the same or do the same things. Some people need to be in the company of others, and some just love their own time doing what they want. And you absolutely can have both with little gold nuggets revealing themselves. Some of my best friends are people I met solo traveling and I am incredibly grateful to have in my life.
Traveling alone also does NOT mean lonely. It means you’ve chosen to travel intentionally by yourself to do what you want. That doesn’t mean you’re some sad loser type, it means you’re actually intelligent and wise enough to realize the benefits it can give you. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love some me-time.
When you are traveling alone, you tend to live very much in the present moment. We all know the benefits of mindfulness and a quietened mind.
When you are present, you don’t have time or the inclination most significantly to be thinking sad thoughts of the past or worried ones about the future.
You are quite simply going from one bliss to the next creating wanderful memories you will treasure for life. NO MONEY CAN BUY THAT, trust me!
Why travel alone is the new rich?
And why does anyone want money? Why do we admire the rich and want to be like them? Why do we want a taste of luxury and live like JLO? It’s for one reason and one reason only, because we believe we will feel better once we have it.
We believe it will give us choices eg buy luxury homes, drive fast cars, go on the best vacations. Yes, and of course these things are going to help, but if you are not happy now, material things will eventually be invisible to you and you’ll go back to being unsatisfied. Don’t get me wrong, I love money. And I see money as a very good thing. And YES, I love fast cars and Chanel like the best of them.
It’s much more with traveling alone, you become unconditionally happy. A new handbag, gorgeous homes, and even relationships when you want someone to be the source of happiness are all conditional. The solo travel experiences I’ve had have programmed me to feel happy regardless of possessions. There can be no price put on that and it’s at the basis of freedom.
If I could live those moments again or have a billion USD, I’d take those experiences any day. Why? I’d be bold enough to say even a billionaire will most likely never have had the feeling I’ve experienced. I feel blessed.
Traveling alone opens the eyes, the nose, the ears, and the heart. Once you try it, you will be hooked and want it again and again.
And then there are feelings of deep satisfaction, appreciation, and immense joy because you’re being you. You are not pleasing someone else, you are not losing out if you don’t want to do the same things, and you are not thinking about what someone else is doing and thinking. And we are ALL selfishly oriented whether we want to admit it or not.
In many cases, the more you solo travel, the more you tune yourself to gratitude, one of the most powerful emotions we have which is also at the basis of living happily ever after too.
You also get to see just how little some people have and they seem happy regardless. They are humbled just to be with loved ones and have some food, the kinds of things we often take for granted. I often say to people we have no right to complain about anything when we see how people live in faraway places.
We all want to live long, happy, healthy lives and the fact that you are on that vacation feeling can significantly upgrade health. You see it when people come back home after a vacation. Yet 2 weeks before in the office, they look tired and worn out. Traveling alone is one major energy well-being boost.
There’s no money on the planet that can buy health and I truly believe feeling good each day is the only medicine we need.
So my lovely, why travel alone? Why not spoil yourself young lady and find out for yourself. Go get that flight booked! You can do anything in life, it just requires belief and focus. Even JLO was once at that point. Just saying lol!
